17. Canale di Mezzo
The Canale di Mezzo is the main waterway that flows through the heart of Peschiera del Garda’s historic center. This canal, one of the four surrounding the Venetian fortress, divides the old town, effectively making it an island encircled by water. Its presence is a cornerstone of urban life, giving the landscape a unique and evocative character.
Running through the very core of the town, the Canale di Mezzo offers scenic reflections, gentle movement, and a sense of timeless charm that defines Peschiera del Garda’s waterfront identity. The historic center is connected to the mainland only by two bridges: the bridge at Porta Brescia to the west and the bridge at Porta Verona to the east. These bridges not only provide access to the old town but are also sites of historical and architectural interest, enriching visitors’ experience with picturesque views and a direct connection to Peschiera del Garda’s centuries-old history.
