13. Bastione Querini
Visit the Querini Bastion in Peschiera del Garda, one of the strategic points of the Fortress and a witness to the lake’s defense.
The Bastione Querini was one of the two main entry points from the lake into the Fortress of Peschiera del Garda.
This structure was crucial because it allowed direct access for boats and vessels arriving from the lake. The Bastione Querini in Peschiera del Garda worked together with its twin, another similar bastion that was demolished in the early 20th century. Both were an integral part of the defensive and logistical system, facilitating the transport of people and goods via water.
In the image, you can admire a detailed reproduction of the construction techniques used for the Bastions of Peschiera del Garda. Architect Alessandro Bazzoffi created this reproduction. Thanks to his work, you can now better understand the structure and technical features of the bastions. The image clearly shows the engineering solutions employed to ensure the safety and functionality of the Fortress.
After carefully observing this reproduction, we suggest continuing along the harbor for a new discovery.
As you continue, you can visit the shipyard, a historic place where boats used for military and civilian transport were built and repaired. In fact, the shipyard is an important testament to the economic activity and lake-based tradition of Peschiera del Garda, closely tied to its strategic role on the lake.
This lakefront area retains the authentic charm of water-based activities and tells stories of work, trade, and human ingenuity. Walking along the harbor will allow you to dive into the history, as you observe architectural details and views that evoke the operational past of the fortress. A visit to the shipyard is therefore a valuable opportunity to discover another key aspect of the city’s life and the memory of the region.
