The history of the sanctuary stems from an episode passed down and rooted in the local memory. On May 11, 1510, a farmer named Bartolomeo Broglia was working in the fields in the “Pignol” area when he was suddenly attacked by a serpent. In a moment of desperation, he called out for divine help.

According to tradition, at that exact moment, a small statue of the Madonna appeared among the branches of an ash tree, surrounded by an extraordinary light. The serpent fled, and the event was interpreted as a miraculous sign. The statuette became an object of veneration and is still preserved today above the high altar, enclosed in a precious bronze reliquary.
