Peschiera del Garda introduzione

Peschiera del Garda, meta obbligatoria per chi vuol conoscere la storia. Questo è lo slogan in quanto, dalle prime società del Neolitico alla prima guerra mondiale, la storia qui ha lasciato interessanti ed importanti tracce: si va dalle culture palafitticole al periodo romano, dall'alto e basso medioevo all'età scaligera, dal periodo di dominazione veneta all'età napoleonica, per fermarsi alla dominazione asburgica, quando Peschiera era una delle quattro roccaforti del Quadrilatero, il sistema difensivo più imponente d'Italia, ed al periodo risorgimentale. Infine la prima guerra mondiale. La nascita e lo sviluppo di Peschiera sono strettamente legati alla sua collocazione geografica: all'estremità meridionale del lago di Garda proprio dove questo ha il suo emissario, il Mincio, affluente del Po che a sua volta sfocia nel mare Adriatico. Punto geografico nevralgico e di diretto collegamento tra l'area alpina e quella padana spiega il fatto che, fin dell'età preistorica, l'uomo abbia lasciato nella zona chiari segni della sua presenza: in particolare l'età del Bronzo ha visto il fiorire di vari insediamenti palafitticoli. Sono stati ritrovati reperti di tale periodo: punte di freccia, spade di bronzo, utensili vari.

1000 MIGLIA

The Mille Miglia was a long-distance road car competition held in Italy in 24 editions between 1927 and 1957. It was a round-line race starting from Brescia and arriving in the same city after the competitors had arrived until in Rome and had ascended the Peninsula; the route was about 1,600 kilometers long, equivalent to about a thousand miles, from which the name of the race.

Since 1977 the Mille Miglia has been revived in the form of a regularity race for vintage cars. Participation is limited to cars, produced no later than 1957, that had participated (or were registered) to the original race. The Brescia-Rome round-trip route follows, even in its variants, that of the original race, keeping the starting point / arrival point in Viale Venezia at the same level as the Rebuffone gardens.

LAKE OF GARDA WINDS

“Ander”: a south-westerly wind that blows from Rivoltella to Padenghe, at times from Fornaci to Rocca of Manerba. It is a constant wind that rises in the early afternoon and lasts for several hours. It mainly affects the south of the Lake and sometimes it affects the north too.

“Pèler”: blows about 12 hours a day and covers most of the lake. In stable weather, it blows from 2-3 a.m to 11 a.m or noon and is slightly stronger towards the eastern shore.

“Ora”: a southern permanent wind, from the PO plain after Pèler dropping, generally blows from 1 p.m to sunset. In summer, it is stronger and usually doesn’t affect the south of the lake.

“Vinessa”: it often happens that, when the sky darkens between Garda and Peschiera ( the east/southeast of the lake ), due to the Bora arrival and meteo disturbance. It causes high waves which can be very dangerous.

“Vènt de mut”: this wind often blows, generally on the western shore,when the lake is quiet, in the summer.

“Vent de Tèp”: in summertime, when dark cloudscover the sky at the southern end of the lak, very dangerous winds are likely to blow up, extremely intense ones that create a hazard for all types of boat. They last from 20 to 60 minutes or so.

These are by no means all of the winds tha blow on the lake, just some of the main ones.
